Diamondback The Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake is the largest of all venomous snakes in the United States. Sullen disposition, bold and sometimes aggressive. Fangs can measure one inch in large specimens. Venom is toxic. Average length 5 feet, maximum length 7 feet.

Mamba Eastern green mambas are the smallest of the mambas. These fast-moving snakes are highly venomous, but less aggressive than black mambas. They have short front fangs and their venom is neurotoxic. Average of length of 5.9 feet up to 12 feet.

Texas Racer Racers are noted for their speed and agility. They are long and slender, with a distinct head and large eyes with round pupils. Grow to around 4 feet in length.

Coral Snake These are small, brightly colored snakes. Their venom is neurotoxic and attacks the nervous system. Coral snakes have small grooved fangs which are permanently erect. They usually hang on after biting. Average length is 2 feet.

Copperhead The Copperhead is the most common venomous snake found in the eastern US and can be found throughout South Carolina. Adults are usually in the range of 24 to 36 inches in length, although specimens of greater than 42 inches are not rare.

Corn Snake The Corn Snake suffocates its prey by wrapping its body around it. Constricting prey is a basic instinct for a type of snake called a constrictor. Their average adult length is about 4 to 6 feet.

Mojave Rattler This species has the most toxic venom of any North American rattlesnake. Considered extremely dangerous to man, fatalities are known. Average length 3 feet, maximum length 4 feet.

Python Pythons are nonvenomous snakes that kill by squeezing their prey. They mainly eat reptiles and mammals, but rarely have they killed humans.The biggest species of pythons reach gigantic size and are capable of killing and swallowing animals as large as crocodiles, pigs, antelopes, or small deer. Pythons range from about 3 to 33 feet long and can weigh up 300 lb.

Pit Viper Pit vipers have special pit organs located on either side of their heads. These pit organs are sensitive to infrared radiation, in effect giving the snakes a sixth sense that helps them to find and perhaps even judge the size of the small warm-blooded prey on which they feed.
